Private Clients Group

Gambourg Read’s Private Clients Practice provides a broad array of services to individuals, families and closely held businesses. Our firm has a long-standing reputation for superior service and sensitivity in managing issues of personal legal interests with discretion and consistent, clear communication. Whether we are protecting the interests of individuals in the area of trusts and estates or family dissolutions, providing advice on tax and financial planning, or handling real estate transactions, all of our clients are treated with genuine respect and their matters are handled with due diligence.

Trusts & Estates

Our Trusts & Estates Department attorneys bring to their tasks considerable experience and close "hands on" attention in the planning and administration of estates and trusts. We are known authors and lecturers on estate planning subjects, with an emphasis on gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer taxation and the income taxation of trusts and estates. Several of our members have served as adjunct professors at leading law schools.

Our firm represents individual and corporate executors and trustees in connection with the administration of trusts and estates, both domestic and international, and assists fiduciaries in the performance of their duties. We regularly advise in planning for the reduction of the impact of taxation on the transfer of wealth from generation to generation and the preservation of family owned businesses, as well as personal family, estate and succession planning for resident and non-resident, citizens and non-citizens. Services to executors include post-mortem income tax planning, representation in federal and state estate tax proceedings and matters which involve the disposition of assets of every description both in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, recognizing that tax reduction is not always the only concern, we are sensitive to the needs of clients dealing with considerations arising from second marriages, the conflicting or different interests of beneficiaries, and the need to provide for the young, the elderly and the disabled. Our Trusts & Estates Department attorneys take pride in their ability to accomplish the efficient and economical administration of estates.

Matrimonial & Family Law Practice

The attorneys in our highly respected Matrimonial Department utilize their individual and collective ability to guide clients through the difficult and emotional realm of family and matrimonial issues. We typically provide legal counsel on questions relating to equitable distribution, child and spousal support, child custody and visitation and relocation, paternity, adoption, cohabitation, as well as prepare prenuptial and separation agreements on behalf of our clients. In counseling clients, our goal is always to achieve the maximum and best results for our clients in the most cost-effective manner-preferably with minimal conflict and negotiated settlements, but, if necessary and appropriate, through the assistance of the courts.

Our matrimonial attorneys represent individuals in all settlement, litigation and appellate aspects of family law, and provide the experience, sensitivity and tenacity that are required in these difficult matters. We can also provide mediation and arbitration services for parties interested in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
